alice neel at cinema village & the robert miller gallery
a tiny bit of alice neel ended up on 'the island,' but more importantly, she is one of the most fascinating artists I've ever encountered. Neel's portaits are lyrical and haunting, and her life was truly epic.
the documentary now playing at cinema village is well worth the price of admission, and in addition to celebrating her oeuvre, it is also a study of the fraught love between parents and children.
finally, the robert miller gallery is exhibiting Neel's work, in conjunction with the film release. The gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday and located at 524 West 26th Street in Manhattan.
